March 18, 2007 Dallas Morning News Major financial transactions like the buyout bid for TXU are an important part of the free market, but a critical part of TXU – its electricity transmission business – remains regulated. And regulated utilities are accountable to the public. This buyout could dramatically impact North Texas and millions of consumers outside the TXU service area. Electricity transmission costs are not passed along solely to consumers within a utility's service area. The Public Utility Commission should gauge the buyout's impact on consumers, jobs and economic growth. No Texas utility has been sold without meaningful regulatory review; we should make sure the largest one is not the first. Tony Bennett
