Governor Perry Names Two to Environmental Flows Advisory Group

(AUSTIN) – Gov. Rick Perry named Karen Hixon and Bryan Shaw to the newly created Environmental Flows Advisory Group. The advisory group will make policy recommendations to the 81st Legislature relating to environmental flow standards and balancing the demands on Texas’ water resources with a growing population.

Hixon of San Antonio serves on the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission, on the board of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation and the Peregrine Fund based in Boise, Idaho. She is on the advisory board for the Trust for Public Land and the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center. She is a past Texas advisory member for Environmental Defense and past docent chairman of the San Antonio Zoological Society. Additionally, Hixon is a past board member of the Texas Nature Conservancy. She is chairman of the San Antonio Museum of Art Board of Trustees and vice chairman of the Amon Carter Museum in Fort Worth. She received a bachelor’s degree from Smith College.

Shaw of Bryan serves on the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. He is an associate professor in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department of Texas A&M University (TAMU), and associate director of the Center for Agricultural Air Quality Engineering and Science. Additionally, he is a member of several committees for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Science Advisory Board, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Air Quality Task Force. Shaw received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in agricultural engineering from TAMU and a doctorate degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
